{More About Me}

I am the proud owner of many different hats ::  I am a wife, daughter, big sister, aunt, friend, coach, foodie, runner, cyclist, yogi and aspiring photographer. Oh, and in my day job, I’m an attorney.

I started this blog as a way to appreciate the many complicated hats that we all wear and that keep life interesting and to share my journey of trying to find the right balance to make it all work.

I like being an attorney. I worked hard to be part of our justice system. It is an important job that gets a bad rep. Unfortunately, it also is a very high stress job that will quickly consume your life unless you make a conscious effort to find a balance and make time for your passions outside the office.

For me, it all began with food. I love food – cooking it, photographing it, eating it, shopping for it, reading about it, you name it. Whomever coined the term “foodie” is a genius.

Even my running began with my passion for food. Eventually, I knew I’d either have to start exercising or cut back on many of my favorite foods like wine, cheese, savory sauces, and desserts. Apparently I looked fit (both a blessing and a curse) because my co-workers signed me up for a 5k. When I couldn’t even run/jog 1 out of the 3.1 miles, I knew I needed to make a change.

A week later, I signed up for my first training class, bought my first pair of real running sneaks, and embarked on an exciting journey. By making time for myself, meeting new people from all walks of life, and pushing my limits both physically and mentally, I somehow found myself again. Running didn’t just change my life; it saved my life.

I quickly fell in love with the sport and have been on the go ever since. Today, I am a certified running coach and hope to become certified in sports nutrition in the near future.  I ride my bike whenever I can (it’s great cross-training and just plain fun); I practice yoga once or twice a week (perhaps the only reason I can still touch my toes); I try to cook one or two real meals a week (I love playing with my hands and being in the kitchen makes me feel at ease); I’ve fallen in love with photography (who knew it was such a brilliant combination of creativity and meticulousness). And, I love to write about all of it!

In many ways, I am a walking, talking contradiction. . . In my professional life, I play the chess game that is the practice of law, constantly arguing and strategizing about the best way to spin a case. In my personal life, I despise gamesmanship, strive for authenticity, and am more likely to be found wearing running shoes, spandex, or yoga pants than dressed to the nines. I am sarcastic, but sincere. I am detail-oriented and precise, but also have a hippie streak. I am a planner who revels in routine, but I’m also easily bored. Hence, my collection of hobbies. :-)

I live in Dallas, Texas with my husband and best friend, Brad (an avid cyclist who is always on the go, just like me), and our 2 Bengal cats, Savannah and Marbles. I have a passion for learning new things. I can’t seem to do anything halfassed. I strive to be optimistic about everything that life throws my way. And, I dream of leaving the world a better a place than I found it.

It is my sincere hope that this space will serve as a place to share my knowledge about training and healthy eating for active people, to offer positive nuggets about finding balance in our busy lives, and to inspire others to make time for their passions.
