The Big Tease

Saturday :: High 75* / Low 50*
Sunday :: High 70* (a new record) / Low 45*
Monday :: High 55* / Low 30*
Tuesday :: High 32* / Low 13* + ice pellets
Wednesday :: High 23* / Low 14*
Thursday :: High 31* / Low 18*
Friday :: High 36* / Low 27* + snow

Seriously? I know I should be grateful that we had a beautiful spring-like weather all weekend (instead of only during the week) at the end of January, and, for the most part, I am. But, knowing what we had in store for the upcoming week convinced me that Mother Nature is just a big tease. “Hey, remember how much you love spring? Yeah, I thought you would. Now, take this!”

Texans do not cope well with cold weather and freezing rain/snow, so if it gets too bad, the city will completely shut down. During Super Bowl week. Neat.

Runners also do not cope well with sub-freezing temperatures and ice. I love running the cold, but this is simply too much. Yesterday, I ran in shorts and a t-shirt and, thanks to the 100% humidity, I was dripping wet by mile 2. Tomorrow, I will have to dig out my tights and thermals — assuming, of course, that the cold front holds off long enough that I get to run at all.

So, Mother Nature, thank you for the friendly reminder of how much I adore springtime. Now, please return it — for good — at your earliest convenience.

Love, Beth

P.S. Is it just me, or does it seem like a bad sign that we won’t make it above freezing on Groundhog Day? That silly rodent better not see his shadow!

    I ran on Saturday on snowy sidewalks and roads because it was a plesant 25. This morning I woke up to run, began getting ready and checked out the temperature 12 with a fresh inch or so on the ground (not taking into effect windchill) and promptly went back to my warm bed. I can’t wait until spring! It’s supposed to snow a foot tonight!

      You are a real trooper, but I can’t say I blame you this morning! I woke up to a sheet of ice with a few inches of snow on top. The wind chill is 2. Needless to say, our group run was canceled. I really missed running, though, so barring more ice, I plan to get up and brave the elements tomorrow!! When do you actually get “spring,” sometime in May?!? 😉
